Chris Banks has over 30 years of experience in Commercial and Business Development roles.
For 12 years he was Commercial Director at Scottish Water before setting up an independent consultancy practice.
During that time and under public ownership, Scottish Water transformed itself from laggard to a leading industry performance alongside its private sector peers. Commercial innovation provided key enablers for performance and cultural shifts, including the transformation of Scottish Water which was the biggest corporate merger in Scotland; the innovative asset delivery partnership Scottish Water Solutions which efficiently managed £3 billion of asset improvement with 8 partners; creation of a non-regulated renewable energy subsidiary Scottish Water Horizons; overseeing the business separation and market readiness programme for the world's first retail competition in water including creation of the leading market participant Scottish Water Business Stream and market operator Central Market Agency of which Chris was a founder Director; developing a consultancy business Scottish Water International to share the Scottish Water journey.
Chris has worked in a wide variety of corporate structures and readily transfers commercial solution learnings between them. He has board level experience at organisations in Public Sector, Regulated Monopoly, LLP, AIM, PLC Subsidiary, Private Equity, Venture Capital, Joint Ventures, Alliance Boards and Charitable Trust. Chris is a graduate of Oxford University and Cranfield School of Management, and is a Fellow of Chartered Institute of Marketing and Member of Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply.
